Murphy's Law #76

Tucking a shirt into your pants perfectly is no easy task.. But doing it twice is a great feat..

Unfortunately Murphy's Law #76 dictates that as soon as you get that perfect tuck nature will call.   Damn Murphy!

  1. Tucking your shirt into your pants *IS* an easy task, and has been perfected by the US military.

    Secrets to looking sharp:

    1) The line of your button-down shirt should alight perfectly with your Zipper and the edge of your belt buckle. This is called your 'gig line.' Keeping it inline goes a long way to making sure you look your best. See photo:

    2) For a good tuck, you need to something with any excess material. The best way to do that is to create two folds, or pleats in the back of your shirt. When pulling your pants up, reach behind and pinch your shirt in two places with both hands - it's best if they are right above your pockets and an equal distance from the crack of your butt. Shove all the excess material from the front of the shirt into those folds, then pull taught to straighten the back. Once you button your pants, insert your thumbs between your shirt and your waistband, and pull them outbound, straightening your shirt as you go. There should be no 'pleats' in the front. As your thumbs reach your back, continue to tuck all the material into those folds. Do this throughout the day to keep the front of your shirt looking crisp.

This is a decent illustration of where all the leftover shirt material should go. http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?95653-The-Military-Tuck-Photos-Illustrations&p=955169#post955169

Use this knowledge well young grasshopper.
